culture may refer to norms, beliefs, practices (the what's), interactions or socializations (the how's).
according to professor santos from the anthro dept., culture is something that is related to all humankind, beliefs, knowledge, morals, laws, customs and other practices acquired by man as a member of his society. it is something that cannot be separated or taken away from us. it is something that will lives within us, a part of us, our everyday living. culture is something we attain from our every struggles, from each and every person we encounter or we just see, from the environment where we grew up.
every person we meet might have a different culture from ours. by culture, we automatically think of their beliefs, religion, or practices. let's take filipinos for example. philippines is a very diverse country, having different races, and yes, culture. every place we go to has a different belief from the other. everything inside a particular place affects and influences its culture. people from mindanao, which are mostly muslims, have a different culture from that of the christian catholics which dominates the luzon/visayas area. muslims have different practices such as the ramadan where fasting applies and the like. also, allah is their god. while christians believe that there is only one god, the father of jesus christ.
diversity of culture should result to respect. each and everyone should respect their fellow filipino because even though we grew up with different cultures, it is this one thing that people can never change, that we are filipinos. =)
